Kritsa gorge

Kritsa is one of the largest villages of Crete, located in the prefecture of Lasithi, and it is built amphitheatrically at the foot of Kastellos Mountain from 330 to 365 m altitude. The village has about 1,300 inhabitants (2011). It is located 9 km from Agios Nikolaos, and it is well known for the preservation of traditional architecture, and the Cretan lifestyle.

A nice and short hike. Starting from the traditional Kritsa village, we will hike through the gorge and make a circle back to the village by the ancient road which was used to connect the ancient city of Lato with the port at Agios Nikolaos.

The hike is about 2 hours (4 km), and it is family friendly!

Optional:

  • Visit the church of Panagia Kera.
  • Have a drink or lunch at the village square.
